Adventure games: This is often the most popular with gamers; these games usually consist of levels, with lots of characters. The basic of these games is usually consists of the character collecting items to get to different levels. Some examples of these games are, Simpsons hit and run, Mario 64.

Fighting games: These games are often easy to play but difficult to master, and as the player goes thought the levels often game play gets much harder. In this games the gamer usually has to battle with other character to advance to the next level. These games usually involve fighting without weapons. Check out this link: game

Racing games: These games started in arcades called pole position and evolved from there. There are different types of racing games, some are simple ones were you have to beat the computer or other players to the finish. Others are were you have a career and have lots of races, you have to spend money to better your car and win more races, an example of this is Gran Turismo. Other examples of racing games are, Burn out 3, Rally Fusion, Ford Racing.
First person shooting games: This is a new type of game because the technology has advanced now so the games can be made. This game combines action shooting and adventure, it is classed as first person because you look through the characters eyes, and usually the character is carrying to shoot its enemies. Some examples of these games are Doom, Golden eye and Call of duty.

Puzzle games: These are a very old type of games; these games usually don’t involve a plot, or many characters. Basically these games test your skills, speed and eye co-ordination. To go up a level the user usually has to reach a high score to proceed. Examples of this game are Tetris, Ultimate mind games, and Trivial Pursuit.

Sports games: Nearly every sport imaginable has been created in to a game from football to tennis. Probably the most popular of the sports games are football ones, these allow the user to control the players so they can win games, but to win the user has to learn certain skills to beat the computer. On some of the games there is also a chance to play two-player mode and play in a league against the computer. More recently there has been an increase in the sales of more extreme sports games, such as Tony Hawk pro skater, which consists of death defying stunts. Sports games have been getting better and better over the years, which include better graphics which makes play more realistic.
