I love the colour you see in the sunset every time I see a rich orange colour with a tint of red it reminds me of this sunset. When I was in America a couple of years ago, I was there for the 4th of July. We went to a kind of traditional America town, and we where sat next to this lake watching the sun go down and this is when I took this picture, once the sun set we sat and watched the fireworks. So every time I see these colours it reminds me of that night. I love the way you can see so many colours in the sunset, a mixture of reds, oranges, yellows, blues and purples, all the colours look like they are mixing together right in front of your eyes, and creating even more colours.

Bright orange/blue

This colour reminds me of my bedroom in my old house. I decided one summer that it would be a good idea to paint my room, and stupidly my parents let me pick the colours myself, not a good idea. I painted three walls a bright blue colour and the windowsill and skirting boards lime green. If that was not enough, I then painted the one wall that was left bright orange so every time I woke up I was faced with this bright orange wall which gave me a headache when I looked at it. My dad made me paint over it in the end coz we were trying to sell the house and he thought it would put people off.

Black reminds me of the time i spent a whole day digging a big hole in my back garden why the rest of my family just watched, my dad helped a bit. The reason i was digging the hole was to make a pond, so the colour black now reminds me of the pond liner, as well as digging for what seemed like hours. Black also reminds me of one of the fish we have in the pond it is jet black and has just turned up out of no where, my dad just noticed it one day.

Black is quite a negative colour, and is often associated with funerals, death and evil.
"Black is the color of authority and power. It is popular in fashion because it makes people appear thinner. It is also stylish and timeless. Black also implies submission. Priests wear black to signify submission to God. Some fashion experts say a woman wearing black implies submission to men. Black outfits can also be overpowering, or make the wearer seem aloof or evil. Villains, such as Dracula, often wear black."

Red

The colour red always reminds me of a trip to London, I went on when was in sixth form. We travelled down on this coach, which wasn’t the more pleasant experience ever. There were Chinese exchange people with us, and as we went to look at the galleries, they decided that the galleries weren’t that interesting. So they went on a tour round London on one of them open top red buses, my teacher thought he had lost them and was panicking because they were late back, it was the funniest thing ever. So every time I see one of them buses it reminds me of that trip, and the funny things that happened while we were there.

He is dead cute thought, he has this little black nose, which is squashed now, because her boyfriend picks him up by its nose. So everytime I see something bright yellow it reminds me of how much a big kid my sister is.

This reminds me of autumn when the leaves turn from green to brown, I love the colour they turn in to, it’s a rich, natural, vivid colour. This colour does not remind me of any specific memory it reminds me of loads, but most of all I just love autumn when the leaves are falling off the trees and its crisp and fresh outside. Near my old house there used to be loads of trees and when it came to autumn all the leaves would start falling off the trees and the floor below them would be covered in a sea of rich, natural browns and oranges.

I hate this colour simply because I associate it with my high school which I did not like; I am not the most dedicated student. This colour was everywhere, my uniform was this colour and the colour was all round the school so you could not escape it. This colour also brings back happy memories of my friends from high school but mostly its bad memories of being at school.

He started me drinking Jack Daniels and coke, which was a big mistake because it gets me really drunk and has caused me much embarrassment. My mate lives in Ireland at the moment so it’s more of a reminder now than ever because I don't see him all the time. I love the natural tone the colour has.

The reason I hate it so much was because everyone who worked there walked around wearing these bright orange fleeces looking like giant oranges. I think I have grown to hate this colour so much because I didn’t really like working there so the colour brings back bad memories for me.

This colour reminds me of my childhood, when I used to play with my barbie’s , this was the best time of my life, when you have the freedom to do what you want. When you are a child you don’t have as much if any responability, which I love. So every time I wear this colour it takes me back to my childhood, and that child like innocent that comes with it.

The reason I love this colour is that it reminds me of my friends back home, because we all have a piece of clothing in this colour, so we often match! It has a rich quality to it, unlike most colours which are often dull and lack life, this colour is warm, lively, and vibrant. This colour is also my favourite colour at the moment, I tend to change my mind every few months but at the moment this is my favourite, so you wil probably see me wearing it alot.

"Currently the most popular decorating color, green symbolizes nature. It is the easiest color on the eye and can improve vision. It is a calming, refreshing color. People waiting to appear on TV sit in "green rooms" to relax. Hospitals often use green because it relaxes patients. Brides in the Middle Ages wore green to symbolize fertility. Dark green is masculine, conservative, and implies wealth. However, seamstresses often refuse to use green thread on the eve of a fashion show for fear it will bring bad luck."

Usually seeing snow in the winter was the only thing which would make you want to get out of bed. when it had snowed me and my sisters used to go and play in the snow on the field outside our house and make snowman and angels. it was probably the only times when we would not argue.

Colour Theory

“Colour Theory is a set of principles used to create harmonious colour combinations. Colour relationships can be visually represented with a colour wheel — the colour spectrum wrapped onto a circle.”

colour wheel
Originally uploaded by nic6.

“According to colour theory, harmonious colour combinations use any two colours opposite each other on the colour wheel, any three colours equally spaced around the colour wheel forming a triangle, or any four colours forming a rectangle (actually, two pairs of colours opposite each other). The harmonious colour combinations are called colour schemes – sometimes the term 'colour harmonies' is also used. Colour schemes remain harmonious regardless of the rotation angle.”
Colour is all around us and it’s a common thing for a person to associate a colour with a feeling or memory of something in their life.

Everyone associates different colours with different things but there are some colours which have international meanings:

Orange: Warning
Yellow: Caution
Blue: Notice
Green: Safety
Red: Danger

Georges Melies

Georges melies (1861-1938) was one of the most important pioneers of early cinema. A successful magician and owner of the Theatre Robert-Houdin in Paris.

A career in cinema was not an option when Melies was born in Paris in 1861, though from an early age he had a strong interest in the arts. He later developed an interest in stage conjure after seeing the work of Maskelyne and cooke. He later took over his father’s business after his retirement and was able to raise enough money to buy the famous Theatre Robert-houdin when it was put up for sale in 1888.
“The 200-seat theatre was equipped with all manner of mechanical contraptions that were used in the illusions. Georges refurbished the theatre and opened it's doors to the public in the Autumn of 1888 with a production called La Stroubaika Persane.”

Cinema technology at this time was just developing and Melies became very interested in this subject, Melies studied various mechanisms and then using his knowledge and other people’s inventions he had some cinema equipment custom made.

Melies first attempt at making films were straightforward cityscapes but he then began to capture magic acts and illusions from the stage of his theatre. By 1896, Melies was using his knowledge of both stage magic and the mechanics of motion pictures to produce his first ‘trick’ films. These short films were cleverly produced; they relied on multiple exposures to create the illusion of people and objects morphing from one form to another or disappearing and re-appearing.

Melies best known film A Trip to the Moon (1902) was one of the most elaborate of his trick films. Melies produced this after he had spent years experimenting with what could be done inside a camera with special effects and multiple exposures.

These technique melies used to create hundreds of short films, some of which still impress audiences today like
Le Voyage dans la lune from 1902.

Melies continued to produce films at a fast pace, but his filmmaking style did not progress. His scenes continued in the same style, using just single shots, they were complex shots, involving a lot of special effect work but he never really looked beyond this.

Sadly, Melies career did not end well, once the novelty of his films wore off, he had to abandon film production in 1912, he then resumed his pre-film career, converting his studio back into a variety theatre. The French have always taken cinema seriously as an art form, and Melies substantial contribution was recognized in the late 1920s.

Melies was not a filmmaker; he was in truth, a film magician. "a conjuror who experimented with films, but who was more concerned with how the film reflected his concept for the tricks involved than the evolution of the new art form. As a filmmaker, Melies may have stopped producing films by 1903. But as a magician, he continued to create dazzling presentations of cinematic marvel."
